The Scala family was one of the most famous Italian medieval lordships. It had lordship in Verona 1277-1387.
Mastiff was with the Venetian city when it passed in non-traumatic form Common to Signoria, although the actual passage came only with his brother Alberto. With instead Cangrande Lordship reached the height of its importance and fame.
They were also built many castles in the area surrounding the town of Verona. For example in Valpolicella every small town was practically a Medieval Castle and served to protect the farmers during the invasions of foreign troops.
Remember that of Soave, Sirmione, Lazise and Malcesine on Lake Garda and many others.
Even Villa del Quar was a Medieval Castle. You can see parts of the walls in the living room porch that make up the west wing.
